HISTORY

The Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg presented by RP Funding will be the 20th annual running for INDYCAR racing on the streets of downtown St. Petersburg. This is the 14th time the race will serve as the NTT INDYCAR SERIES season-opening event.

The inaugural Grand Prix of St. Petersburg was in 2005 and won by the late Dan Wheldon, two-time Indianapolis 500 champion and local resident. A Champ Car World Series race did run on the circuit in 2003. No race was held in 2004.

*While originally celebrating Josef Newgarden as the winner of the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg presented by RP Funding, on April 24, 2024, it was announced that Team Penske was in violation of “Push to Pass” parameters. Due to the disqualification penalty of the No. 2 (Josef Newgarden), the No. 5 entry of Arrow McLaren driven by Pato O’Ward is now credited with the win on the Streets of St. Petersburg.
