Volunteer Applications Are Open for 2018 Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg

The Firestone Grand Prix is looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers with a can-do attitude!

Volunteering at the Event is a unique and fulfilling experience that offers great insight into one of the biggest annual sporting events in Florida! An event of this scale and scope would not be possible without the dedication and support of our fabulous volunteers. We hope you will join our team!

 

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS AVAILABLE

There are a number of different positions available for you to take part in at the Firestone Grand Prix of St.Petersburg.

All Volunteers are expected to: 

  • Interact with event staff, team leaders, guests and fellow volunteers in a courteous manner, with understanding of event policies set in place.
  • Maintain a friendly, helpful attitude and a general knowledge of the track layout and on-track activities.
  • Familiarize themselves with the event site layout to be able to provide proper assistance and answer guest questions accurately.
  • Provide a schedule outlining their hours of “availability” for race Weekend, and not leave their post without having a replacement.
  • Be flexible to work other various tasks assigned by team leader throughout the weekend
  • Make sure to take breaks and get fresh air and enjoy the event every now and then!

There is NO GUARANTEE you will be placed in your preferred position, however we do ensure a fun and eventful weekend.  The teams that are filled for 2018 have been removed from the application form.

Please note: Volunteers are requested to be available March 9, 10 and 11, 2018, as well as for a short Saturday morning orientation session March 3, 2018 at the Mahaffey Theater. Must be 18 years or older to apply.


 

2018 VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

 

CREDENTIALS AMBASSADOR TEAM   FULL FOR 2018

Team Leaders: Lisa Hoyland

The Credential Center Team will be responsible for:

  • Preparation of credentials, assembling information packets and ensuring that proper credentials are issued correctly to those authorized to receive them (media personnel, volunteers, staff, service workers and support workers).
  • Redemption of parking and pit passes.
  • Signing of waivers by media personnel, volunteers, staff, and service & support workers.
  • Directing guests to correct credentialing.
  • Provide assistance and answer questions from guests.
  • Ensure safe and efficient traffic flow (stay alert to the build-up of lines).
  • Be a friendly ambassador to all guests and have fun!

MEDIA CENTER  FULL FOR 2018

Team Leader: Bart Graham

The Media CenterTeam will be responsible for:

  • Assisting the print, broadcast, internet and photo journalists from around the world, including league/team/manufacturer/event PR staff, in the operation of the race weekend.
  • Creation and/or distribution of event information, PR packets, press notes.
  • Photocopying and providing directions/handouts, to ushering drivers/media members to and from press conferences.
  • Controlling Media Center access, operating office equipment.

GRANDSTAND AMBASSADOR TEAMS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

Team Leaders: Radu Fulea, Nancy Lafleur, Nick Rogone & Steve Soper

The Grandstand AmbassadorsTeam will be responsible for:

  • Assisting patrons with finding seats, locating concessions and facilities
  • Reporting any problems within grandstands to a team leader or member of event staff (ex.  smoking, fan altercations, open umbrellas).
  • Patrolling the bottom level of each grandstand to politely remove any spectator blocking the view of others.
  • Ensuring safe and efficient traffic flow (stay alert to the build-up of lines).

INFORMATION SERVICES AMBASSADOR TEAM FULL FOR 2018

Team Leaders: John Hehn

The Information Services AmbassadorsTeam will be responsible for:

  • PRIMARY ROLE: Help enhance the race fan's experience.
  • Familiarize themselves with the event site layout to be able to provide proper assistance and answer guest questions accurately.
  • Showing race guests on the map their destination or even taking them to the location.
  • Assisting patrons with locating their suites and/or seats, concessions and facilities
  • Reporting any problems within an area to a team leader or member of event staff
  • Work closely with Ceremonies team in relation to autograph sessions, trophies and parade laps

CEREMONIES TEAM FULL FOR 2018

Team Leader: Ian Boyle

The CeremoniesTeam will be responsible for:

  • Assistance with pre and post race ceremonies for all race series
  • Delivery of special VIPs to a specific locations at a precise time during pre-and post race ceremonies
  • Assisting with autograph sessions, Q & As, the pre-race Parade Lap, directing dignitaries
  • Various tasks assigned by Ian and Angela throughout the weekend

HOSPITALITY AMBASSADOR TEAMS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

Team Leaders: Brad Billings & Rusty Wood

The Hospitality Team will be responsible for:

  • Assisting patrons with finding seats, locating concessions and facilities
  • Reporting any problems within suites to a team leader or member of event staff (ex.  smoking, fan altercation).
  • Ensuring safe and efficient traffic flow (stay alert to the build-up of lines).
  • Ensuring all guests entering the hospitality suites have the proper credentials and only enter their assigned suite.

ACCESS CONTROL ACCEPTING APPLICIATIONS

Team Leader: Eric Stockwell 

The Access Control Team will be responsible for:

  • Assist in checking passes and ensuring proper credentials are being used by individuals at various locations throughout the event
  • Assist with crowd control and safety at the paddock gates at busy times
  • Providing access to the IndyCar Paddock, Pit Lane, autograph sessions, and other areas as needed.
  • Respond to changing needs throughout the weekend and may be asked to move from one area of the event site to another with little notice.
  • Help control access to the event, to restricted areas adjacent to the track, and Pit Lane
  • Assisting with pre scheduled pedestrian crossing operations at specific locations around the track.
  • Check for proper credentials at restricted areas, and direct patrons around the circuit.

PHOTOGRAPHY FULL FOR 2018

Team Leader: Scott Lescard

The Photography Team will be responsible for:

  • Work with FGPSP staff to ensure that a full list of required event photos are obtained

VOLUNTEER SERVICES TEAM ACCEPTING APPLCIATIONS

Team Leaders: Mike Buchanan

The Volunteer Services/ Information Services Team will be responsible for:

  • Volunteers in this area will complete a variety of tasks, act as runners and roamers and may be assigned to any number of areas throughout the event weekend.
  • Relieve other team leads requiring extra help or coverage for breaks
  • All areas that require “extra” volunteers over the course of the weekend
  • Dispense information about the event, race related activities
  • Individuals assigned to this area will report to Mike Buchanan but will likely work different areas throughout the weekend.
  • Must be flexible with changes and act on quick decisions throughout the weekend

SHOW CAR TEAM FULL FOR 2018

Team Leader: Gary Lewis

The SHOW CAR Team will be responsible for:

Show Cars are positioned in front of The Mahaffey Theater and Volunteers conduct their duties there.

 Volunteers Assigned To This Area Require:

  • Willing to engage in conversation with strangers,
  • Willingness to learn about Show Car and INDYCAR Series.
  • Attend events/race on time per schedule
  • Help unload Show Car and setup or put away and load Show Car
  • Greet guests and explain the history and purpose of the Show Car
  • Act as an Ambassador for the FGPSP
  • Friendly and outgoing personality
  • Offer to take photos of guests with the Show Car(s)
  • Light lifting and movement of objects
