ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., August 25, 2016 -- Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, one of the biggest event weekends in the Tampa Bay area, will serve as the opening race for the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series season for a seventh consecutive year. The event will take place March 10-12, 2017 in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida.

Verizon IndyCar Series officials made the announcement today, revealing the details of its 2017 schedule. All venues where INDYCAR competed in 2016 return to the 2017 calendar, which features races on six ovals, six permanent road courses and five temporary street circuits across the United States and Canada.

"St. Petersburg is an incredible city and a fantastic place to hold a world-class race," said Kim Green, co-owner, chairman and CEO of Green Savoree Racing Promotions, organizers of the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. "It is the ideal site for our season inaugural with drivers and race fans alike converging on the Bay Area every March. We are honored to have the opportunity to be the first race on the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series calendar."

Pirelli World Challenge, a fan favorite with its intense on-track competition, will complement the weekend's line-up for the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg and will also open its 2017 season at St. Petersburg. Young drivers looking to reach the Verizon IndyCar Series will also be showcased as the entire Mazda Road to Indy ladder series returns in 2017, which includes Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires, the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires and the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda.

Additions to on-track programming and festival entertainment will be announced in the coming months.

Ticket sales for renewal customers will begin September 7 at 10 a.m. for the 2017 Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, with pricing starting at $105 for Reserved Grandstand Seating. For full ticket pricing and event information, visit
