ST.PETERSBURG, Fla., March 9, 2016 – 6 Air Mobility Wing and MacDill Air Force Base commander, Colonel Dan Tulley will command the field to the green flag as the Honorary Starter for the 2016 Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, taking place this weekend on the streets of downtown St. Petersburg.

As Honorary Starter, Colonel Tulley will wave the green flag at 12:52 p.m. ET for the season-opening Verizon IndyCar Series race on Sunday, March 13. MacDill Air Force Base will have an active role in this year's pre-race ceremonies, where aerospace medical technician Staff Sergeant Cherrelle Warren will sing the National Anthem and a MacDill AFB KC-135 will provide a pre-race fly-over.

"We are excited to have Colonel Dan Tulley, Sergeant Cherrelle Warren, KC-135 aircrew and other members from MacDill Air Force Base play such a significant role in our event," said Kim Green, Co-Owner, Chairman and CEO of Green Savoree Racing Promotions, organizers of the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. "Colonel Tulley will have the best seat in the house for the start of the race. Colonel Tulley is the commander of the 6th Air Mobility Wing at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. With experience in 11 combat deployments, Colonel Tulley is responsible for worldwide combat air refueling and airlift missions, and oversees the security and safety of the base's 18,800 employees and their families.
